First Consultation
What happens at your first consultation
To make the most of your first consultation, please bring:
- A referral from your GP, dentist or specialist
- Your Medicare card
- Your Health Insurance card (if applicable)
- A completed new patient registration form click here to download (if you cannot print out, please arrive 5 minutes early to fill out in the clinic)
- Scans or X-rays relating to your present problem
During your first consultation, Dr van Mourik will ask you about your condition and your medical history. He may do a physical examination. He’ll look at your X-rays, scans and blood tests. Sometimes further scans or blood tests may be required.
Next, Dr van Mourik will make a treatment plan and discuss your options. If surgery is required, he’ll discuss it in detail and explain the benefits and risks. Dr van Mourik will also explain what to expect before and after surgery.
If surgery is required, the booking can be made at this consultation.
Do ask questions
You’ll probably have questions and/or concerns. This is a good time to discuss them.
After your initial consultation
If surgery is required, the booking can be made after your consultation. Our administration staff will make any necessary hospital bookings on your behalf.
You’ll be asked to pay for your initial consultation. Medicare will reimburse you for part of it. We can lodge the Medicare claim on your behalf.
Surgery costs
Medicare will reimburse you for part of your initial consultation.
We will provide you with a quote after your consultation to provide to your health insurance so that you’ll know how much of the cost will be covered.
If an anaesthetist is involved, we’ll give you contact details for the anaesthetist so you can obtain their fee schedule. Medicare and private health insurance will cover part of the anaesthetist’s costs.
